1.4 +MinGW requires both the MinGW system and MSYS.
     1.5 +
1.6 +There is a script for generating a series of GNU makefiles targeted
1.7 +at MinGW on Windows. These makefiles will build the SDL library and
1.8 +test executables with static links to libgcc and the same features
1.9 +as the Visual Studio builds. That is, they have full OpenGL support
1.10 +and they have no dependency on MinGW.
    1.11 +
1.12 +After generating the scripts, simply navigate to the directory in
1.13 +a MSYS terminal and execute:
    1.14 +
    1.15 + make
    1.16 +
1.17 +If you wish to clean the directory, you can use either the clean
    1.18 +batch file, or call:
    1.19 +
    1.20 + make clean
    1.21 +
1.22 +The former will remove the actual makefiles and the latter will
1.23 +perform a typical clean operation. You can target specific
    1.24 +build configurations as such:
    1.25 +
    1.26 + make config=debug
    1.27 +
1.28 +Verbosity is initially set to off. All verbosity controls is
1.29 +whether the resulting gcc and ar commands are printed to the
1.30 +console. You can enable verbose output by setting verbose to any
    1.31 +value:
    1.32 +
    1.33 + make verbose=1
    1.34 +
1.35 +There is currently no install target, but that is intended
    1.36 +eventually.
    1.37 +
    1.38 +Ben:
1.39 +There is no DirectX support currently, but you can use the
1.40 +command option '--directx' when generating the makefiles to
1.41 +explicitly force the DirectX dependency on. This may have
1.42 +undefined behavior, so use it cautiously.
