    1.13 +
1.14 +This is the Simple DirectMedia Layer, a generic API that provides low
1.15 +level access to audio, keyboard, mouse, joystick, 3D hardware via OpenGL,
    1.16 +and 2D framebuffer across multiple platforms.
    1.17 +
1.18 +SDL is written in C, but works with C++ natively, and has bindings to
1.19 +several other languages, including Ada, Eiffel, ML, Perl, and Python.
    1.20 +
1.21 +The current version supports Linux, Windows, BeOS, MacOS, MacOS X,
1.22 +FreeBSD, Solaris, and IRIX. The code contains support for Windows CE,
1.23 +OpenBSD, NetBSD, AIX, OSF/Tru64, and QNX, but these are not yet
    1.24 +officially supported.
    1.25 +
1.26 +This library is distributed under GNU LGPL version 2, which can be
1.27 +found in the file "COPYING". This license allows you to use SDL
1.28 +freely in commercial programs as long as you link with the dynamic
    1.29 +library.
    1.30 +
1.31 +The best way to learn how to use SDL is to check out the header files in
1.32 +the "include" subdirectory and the programs in the "test" subdirectory.
1.33 +The header files and test programs are well commented and always up to date.
1.34 +More documentation is available in HTML format in "./docs/index.html"
    1.35 +
1.36 +The test programs in the "test" subdirectory are in the public domain.
